top-news

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to make a significant step in empowering rural India by distributing 65 lakh property cards on Saturday under the SVAMITVA Scheme, covering over 50,000 villages nationwide, according to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The distribution will occur through an e-ceremony via video conference, where the Prime Minister will also interact with select beneficiaries and address the nation.

This landmark event will span 10 states—Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh—and two Union Territories, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The ministry noted on Friday that the scheme has reached a milestone with the preparation of approximately 2.25 crore property cards.

Over 230 districts will host physical events for distributing property cards, with around 13 Union Ministers expected to oversee regional ceremonies from various locations across the country.

Launched by the Prime Minister on National Panchayati Raj Day, April 24, 2020, the SVAMITVA Scheme aims to provide rural property owners with “Record of Rights” using drone and GIS technology. To date, 67,000 sq km of rural Abadi land, valued at ₹132 lakh crore, has been surveyed under the scheme.

The scheme has made significant strides, completing drone surveys in 3.17 lakh villages, including full saturation in the Union Territories of Lakshadweep, Ladakh, Delhi, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Daman & Diu, as well as the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Furthermore, all inhabited villages in Haryana, Uttarakhand, Puducherry, Tripura, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Goa now have property cards, reflecting the remarkable progress of the initiative.
