What comes up most about Lightning Rides is Kine, the guide. Every visitor names him: they describe him as friendly, patient and sure-footed, with over ten years guiding tours in Costa Rica, and say he shapes the route to each group's level, checks everyone is comfortable with the bikes before setting off and gives tips along the way. The bikes are electric Sur-Rons, fast, agile and quiet; an experienced rider appreciated the practice runs at the start to feel the instant acceleration, and another points out they were in top condition. The tour climbs mountain trails and rivers with photo stops and views of Playa Hermosa and Jacó from the top; someone who did the three-hour version says they'd do it again with more friends.
It departs from Calle Hermosa, in Playa Hermosa, and opens every day from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (tours start between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm). It costs US$100 for two hours, US$150 for three and US$200 for four, plus tax; riders must be 16 or older and wear closed-toe shoes.
