What locals are saying about Carton Surfboards

Carton Surfboards is the workshop and shop of Edwin "Carton" Villalobos, a Costa Rican shaper who has been building boards in Jacó since 1990. People who ride them talk about top-level boards, light, strong and confidence-inspiring in very different conditions: one surfer has used his Riviera longboard for more than a year in big and small waves and finds it very maneuverable and great for nose rides. Another remembers the first Mad Dog, a 6'9" hybrid from 2020 built with first-rate American materials, and is looking forward to the epoxy version. The models on the site range from the Mad Dog and the Gato Volador to the Riviera, the Coralillo, the Rocket Man and the beginner-friendly Mosquito, and all of them can be ordered custom.

Service is hands-on: Carton recommends a board for each surfer's level and style and it shows that he works every board with passion, with a finish described as impeccable. It is on Avenida Pastor Díaz, 800 meters south of the Catholic church, across from the Club del Sol condominiums, in Jacó, and opens every day (Sundays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM).
