La Casa de Carmen is a family restaurant where the owners wait on you themselves and take care that every dish and every drink arrives well presented. At breakfast people praise the gallo pinto, with the right flavor and texture, and the carne en salsa, juicy and full of flavor; there are also casados from ₡4,250, pastas and a seafood menu with ceviches, corvina and a whole red snapper. One diner who ordered the whole fish with patacón and vegetables remembers it as spectacular, and the kids' fish fingers came on a generous plate with fries, not the usual three strips.
Portions are big and prices friendly: a family of 8 left happy with everything they ordered, and visitors to Herradura come back to try other dishes. The restrooms are kept clean. One diner suggested insulating the zinc roof, whose heat raises the temperature inside, and noted with surprise that the restaurant's vision and mission are posted for all to see. It is open Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesdays) in Herradura.
