Soda Garabito is a soda in the classic sense: you order at the register, there is a line at lunchtime and no table service, but the plates are generous and the prices are among the lowest in Jacó. The thing to order is the casado —rice, beans, salad and sweet plantain, with ribs, chicharrones, shredded beef, shrimp or tilapia fillet—; one visitor had the fish cooked to order and loved it. Mornings bring gallo pinto with two sides of your choice (cheese, egg, natilla, fried yuca), and at any hour there is olla de carne, burgers, coffee and fresh fruit drinks.
The feel is pure soda: a crowd, wooden tables, an open dining room and home-style food made for eating well without fuss, solo or with the family. There is its own parking lot and wheelchair access, and it opens every day from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM in Jacó. Casados run around ₡4,000 and breakfasts start at ₡2,500; the dish of the day changes with whatever the kitchen prepares, so it pays to ask what is on today.
