TAWA pairs Indian cooking with an Asian corner, and the table gets split between the two. On the Indian side, the vegan chana masala, the lamb in almond sauce, naan straight from the tandoor and the chicken curries get named most, with a gulab jamun to finish; on the Asian side there is pad thai, chilli chicken and burnt garlic fried rice. Every dish comes at the spice level you ask for, and vegetarians and vegans have plenty to choose from, since the menu marks which dishes qualify.
The dining room sits on a second floor, with a small balcony, air conditioning and an open-air area that stays cool; the mood is calm, welcoming and family-friendly. Service is the best-liked part: the owner suggests dishes and even lets you taste a dessert, and Karen and Vikram get special praise. The one complaint is price: mains (₡7,000 to ₡10,000) come without a side, so rice or bread is ordered separately, and one visitor found the food good-looking but light on flavor. It is in Jacó and opens daily from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM.
