Cacao Santo is not a plantation: there are only four or five cacao trees, and one visitor who arrived expecting a farm was surprised, but left delighted because you see the whole process here, from cacao to chocolate. The tour mixes history (where cacao comes from and its spiritual value for the Indigenous peoples who lived in Costa Rica), the five senses and participation: you help make an artisanal cacao drink and the group shares its own memories of chocolate, which almost always turn out to be happy or calm moments.
The walk to the waterfall is part of the experience: some people get in the water and some just dip their feet, and everyone describes it as restful. It is a place to connect with nature and with people, and the hosts make you feel at home. Book ahead. It is in Herradura.
Cultural tour about the history and traditions of cacao in Costa Rica, at a family project created to revive the ancestral cultivation, processing and consumption of cacao. It lasts 1.5 hours and can be in Spanish, English or Portuguese. It is not a cacao farm: there is a cacao orchard for the family's own consumption. Reservations are required by WhatsApp (+506 8880 8581). Rates are those of the Garabito Cultural Inventory 2024 (Ministry of Culture); the project itself gives the price by WhatsApp, so it is worth confirming. They also sell chocolate bars and cacao nibs.
