Sababa Surf School runs a family surf school out of a tent on Jacó beach, in front of Koko's Gastro Bar. Students describe the instructor Jay as patient and respectful, someone who makes surfing easy for beginners: he stays with them on the first waves and then lets go without piling on instructions, and several people stood up on the board in their first session; those with some level learned new things too. There are group or family lessons from $45 per person, a two-hour private lesson ($80) and the 5-day Grow Surf program ($280), along with lessons for kids ages 5 to 16 and board rentals.
The rentals get good words: one surfer kept the board for several days, and when his leash snapped on a wave he was handed a new one at no charge. Communication is by WhatsApp, it is open every day from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and it also arranges fishing trips, horseback rides and excursions in the area. It is in Jacó, next to the lifeguard post; the regular price is cash on the beach and paying online costs a little more.
Lessons on Jacó Beach, in front of the school’s beach tent. Up to 3 students per instructor. If conditions are unsafe (strong wind, storms or dangerous waves) the lesson is rescheduled at no cost; cancellations require 24 hours’ notice.
